Pondathon: The Quiet Pond's story-driven readathon. Image: Two swords with vines wrapped around it frame the words 'Pondathon', with three little forest sprites sitting on top. One forest sprite has a leaf on its head, the middle has twigs for horns, and the right has a mushroom on its head.

Preamble

What CW has put together for this readathon has absolutely blown me away. I’ve never seen anything like it. I couldn’t help but sign up! I especially love the focus on co-operative reading and community. I think participating in the Pondathon will be a great way to make new friends and immerse myself in the book blogging community. This sign-up post (a template provided by CW) explains what the Pondathon is and how to participate. It also introduces my Pond character, Kyrian, and my readathon TBR.

What is the Pondathon?

The Pondathon is a co-operative and story-driven readathon hosted and run by CW from The Quiet Pond. The aim of the Pondathon is to read books and collect points to protect the friends over at The Quiet Pond from the encroaching malevolent forces that threaten our friends in the forest.

Have fun participating in the Pondathon readathon by joining one of five teams, each with a unique way to collect points and signing up! You can also follow the story of the Pondathon as it unfolds, and participants can also complete ‘side quests’ during the readathon to collect extra points. The readathon takes place from January 24th 2020 to March 7th 2020. More information about the readathon can be found here.

My Pond Character

My Pond Character is called Kyrian. Kyrian spends most of their days in the Pond quietly reading. But with the approaching threat, they’ve dug up their bow and arrows, ready to help protect home and friends. Kyrian has joined Xiaolong’s team for the first part of the Pondathon. Xiaolong’s team is all about reading. Here’s how we’ll earn points:

  • Progression: No tricks or gimmicks! Join Team Xiaolong and gain points by reading – it’s as simple as that! For every 10 pages/15 minutes (of the total time on the audiobook) that you read, you gain 1 point.
  • Xiaolong team bonus: For every book you finish, Xiaolong’s team fights with more spirit and hope. Give yourself an extra 15 points!

My Pondathon TBR

For the first part of the Pondathon, I’m focused on reading for the Cybils awards. These are some books I’ve put on suspended hold for when I’m done that.

Silence: In the Age of Noise by Erling Kagge

I picked up this book while bookstore browsing over the holidays. I love the cover, and I’m curious about Kagge’s approach to the topic.

Anything You Can Imagine: Peter Jackson and the Making of Middle-Earth by Ian Nathan

After rewatching all the extended editions of The Lord of the Rings movies in theatres over Christmas, I’m feeling in the mood to read this.

Indian No More by Charlene Willing McManis

A relatively new #ownvoices middle grade release, I’m waiting for it to be processed at my library.

What We See When We Read by Peter Mendelsund

This one cropped up while I was reviewing my Goodreads TBR. Apparently, it’s quite a visual book.

The Reader by Traci Chee

Book one in the Sea of Ink and Gold trilogy, I’m participating in another readathon to read all three books.

Have you joined the Pondathon? You can sign-up anytime while the event is on.

  1. Pondathon sounds like a fun event! Hope you have fun taking part in it. I’ll be looking forward to your posts on your progress.

  2. I’ve been behind on blogging and missed sign-ups for this by enough that I might wait and hope there’s another round. It sounds like a really fun set-up for a read-a-thon!
