I can't believe I haven't read that yet banner

Once a month, I curate a small list of books that make me think, “I can’t believe I haven’t read that”.  Then, you vote on which book I should read in the following month. I hope that I’ll be able to ‘catch up’ on certain books that I ‘should’ have read ages ago and finally be able to discuss those books with my fellow book lovers.

July’s Result

Last month’s vote was split down the middle between Saga Vol. 1 and The LotteryLindsey had commented that summer is a great time for graphic novels, so I put a hold on Saga Vol. 1 – except I didn’t. It turned out I requested Saga Book 1. The difference is that Vol. 1 contains issues #1-6, while Book 1 contains issues #1-18.

Saga Book 1 cover

I binged the entire book one Friday, mostly while chilling on the beach. It’s one of those books about which I don’t think I can tell you anything you haven’t already heard. Saga’s a great example of what the graphic novel format can achieve that the written word alone can’t. The epic, worlds spanning plot feels real and down to earth thanks to loving and sincere characters. Even though the story and its images are visceral at times, it’s first and foremost the tale of a caring family. Humour and emotion are well-balanced. I can’t imagine reading this series issue by issue. I’m glad I accidentally signed out the longer volume!

August’s Selection

I sorted my Goodreads to-read-middle-grade shelf by year published, from oldest to newest. Summer seems to me a good time for classic middle grade fiction.

Which book should I read in August? Leave a comment below or vote on Twitter! (I can’t tell who voted on Twitter, so if you’re really gunning for a book you can vote in the comments AND on Twitter 😜) EDIT July 31: Voting is now closed.
