April proved to be a productive reading month! I am currently 17 books ahead of my Goodreads goal, which feels like a miracle. With my academic obligations largely complete, I was able to enjoy some down time before I leave for my summer job on May 6. It took me a few days to properly settle down and get used to no obligations. I felt like I had to rush through things, so I could get back on and work on my assignments. Last week the sun came out and I went for a lot of great bike rides, trying to get back into biking shape before I hit up the Rockies. The sun vanished for the last weekend of April, but that was alright because it meant I didn’t feel bad about staying in all day and reading for Dewey’s Read-a-thon on the 28!

"To me, middle grade can have unadulterated moments of mercy and gentleness that the more plot-heavy YA cannot, and a good middle grade makes me feel proud of my fellow humans.” !!! #MGLit https://t.co/oWutK2k4oQ

Two finds from the used bookshop with a great Tolkien selection that I went to last week! Kilby’s book isn’t in great condition but it’s readable which is what I need 👍🏻#TolkienCollection pic.twitter.com/FhTHyaRCqP

Upcoming in May
- All month – Wyrd and Wonder, “a quest to celebrate the best fantasy books, movies, audiobooks, games, art and whatever else tickles our fancy” is hosted by Imyril, Jorie, and Lisa. It’s not too late to sign up!
- 3 May – Publication of The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill (Look at the cover! Hopefully this is the kind of Little Mermaid retelling I can fall in love with.)
- 8 May – Publication of Animas by Antoine Revoy (Rosemary’s review put this creepy middle grade graphic novel on my radar.)
- 15 May – Publication of Out of the Blue by Sophie Cameron (While the premise had me curious, positive reviews from bloggers prompted me to add this to my TBR.)
- 22 May – Publication of Furyborn by Claire Legrand (I liked the fantasy elements of Legrand’s middle grade Some Kind of Happiness so I’m eager to see what she does with YA fantasy! I do have an ARC that I should start reading soon…)
- 29 May – Publication of Front Desk by Kelly Yang (This one’s received some buzz in the MGlit blogosphere).
