“I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Read That Yet” #7 (Help Me Choose!)

I can't believe I haven't read that yet banner
Once a month, I curate a small list of books that make me think, “I can’t believe I haven’t read that”.  Then, you vote on which book I should read in the following month. I hope that I’ll be able to ‘catch up’ on certain books that I ‘should’ have read ages ago and finally be able to discuss those books with my fellow book lovers.

January’s Result – Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

Cover of Truthwitch

Erm, so, does anyone remember this feature I do on occasion? 😂 Turns out I didn’t have the capacity to keep it going during my final semester. Now that that’s over, though, I intend to bring it back on a monthly basis.

I did tackle Truthwitch in February, shortly before I went to New York. The premise of Truthwitch appealed to me, as did the badass cover. Unfortunately, the tone and perspective of the two protagonists didn’t work for me at all. I DNF’d around 50 pages in. But at least that’s one less book on my TBR!

June’s Selection

June’s theme is 2018 releases. I actually have less 2018 releases on my TBR than I expected. I think I did a better job than usual in keeping up with new releases that year… You’ve got an eclectic mix to vote on this time – one young adult, two middle grade, and one adult. The stats are from Goodreads.

  • A Room Away from the Wolves by Nova Ren Sum (3.33 stars, 819 ratings) – Young adult fabulism. This has pretty mixed reviews but I’ve never read anything by this author and I’m curious to give her a go. Plus, I’m partial to deep purple covers.
  • The House in Poplar Wood by K.E. Ormsbee (3.95 stars, 380 ratings) – Spooky middle grade. Twins who each serve Memory and Death.
  • Hurricane Child by Kheryn Callender (3.83 stars, 969 ratings) – Contemporary middle grade. Queer girl living in the Caribbean, #OwnVoices for both of those.
  • The Mermaid by Christina Henry (3.69 stars, 2,529 ratings) – “Mermaid leaves the sea for love and later finds herself in P.T. Barnum’s American Museum as the real Fiji mermaid.”

Which book should I read in June? Vote on the poll below or by leaving a comment on this post. (I can’t tell who voted on Twitter, so if you’re really keen you can vote in the comments AND on Twitter ;P) Voting closes on May 25. Voting is now closed.
