The prompt for this week is choosing the best book from each year of the previous decade. This was a fun way to review what I’ve read in the past 10 years (!). Pulling together the list took a lot longer than I expected. I need to go to bed now because I am going to the dentist at 7:30AM…so I’m going to publish this post with no formatting apart from links to reviews?? Hope you enjoy this no frills TTT haha.
- 2008 – I only have three books published this year on GoodReads :O One of them was the penultimate Pendragon series book – probably a good choice. Story was really building up.
- 2009 – WHITE IS FOR WITCHING, of course. This was seriously published ten years ago? ;_;
- 2010 – Doctor Who: The Writer’s Tale – The Final Chapter. I re-read this book a few times during my undergrad.
- 2011 – I Want My Hat Back, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making and A Monster Calls make this year a tough call, but I’m going with Fairyland #1 (one of my first reviews!!).
- 2012 – I read a few interesting books from 2012, but nothing too stand out. I’ll go with The Good Father.
- 2013 – Ugggggh, both Burial Rites and The Ocean at the End of the Lane came out this year…it’s no contest, though – Ocean is the winner.
- 2014 – Lots of great books published this year! The Third Plate, Annihilation, The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender, In Other Lands, The Enchanted…I can’t pick an obvious winner.
- 2015 – Uprooted by Naomi Novik. Easy pick, lol.
- 2016 – Another strong year, but nothing beats Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire (except maybe The Witches of New York?!)
- 2017 – Not gonna repeat the Wayward Children, so I’ll go with Spirit Hunters by Ellen Oh.
- 2018 – Hmm, maybe Front Desk by Kelly Yang. Or Spinning Silver but I don’t want to do sequels and it’s a spiritual successor to Uprooted.
I think this is a very interesting topic so please leave a link if you’ve written a post or share your own favourites from some of the years.
I really need to try Uprooted! I didn’t realize that I’ve read Naomi Novak before and enjoyed her books. I recently learned that I have and now feel like I’ve been missing out! Still this is a really neat way to look back. I think I could only do to 2012 or something so I’ll have to wait a couple more years. 😉
Thank-you! ^^ This was a fun post to write, even if I was rushing to post it. Was it one of the Temeraire books you’d read? I can’t decide if I would like them or not, but gosh do I love Uprooted haha. I think you would like it!
Yes! Temeraire, the first 2. I really should try Uprooted now. haha 😉
