July 2019 Month in Review

Posted 3 August 2019 in month in review /10 Comments

I have started and deleted this paragraph four times because lots has been happening but not much that I feel is really worth sharing. I did a lot of great reading in July. That’s been refreshing! I’m settling back into middle grade. I also just finished my first week of full time work as a children’s librarian. I’m excited for the work ahead. Although the work days have been packed full of new information to learn, I already feel better rested and able to engage in hobbies and chores after work more so than when I was working on-call. Now I have a three day weekend to enjoy :O

  1. I forget that you are a huge middle grade reader Jenna! Those three you are planning to read look dynamite! I admit I checked them out through your links… I also checked out many of your tweets here too. The one about purchasing books read from the library is particularly fascinating as I just read an article (linked in my bulletin board this week) about how publishers are changing how they sell ebooks to libraries and it sounds budget crushing. <3

    • I did take a breather from middle grade for a few months but I’m ready to dive back in! Aw, I’m so glad to hear you found some of the links/tweets valuable. ^^ So many interesting things happen on Twitter but they can be so fleeting. The ebooks situation right now with libraries is definitely very difficult, unfortunately. Hopefully we can find more sustainable solutions working with publishers in the future.

  2. So glad you’re enjoying your reading this month Jenna — and congrats on your new job! At times I dream about an alternate life as a children’s librarian (even though I know it’s not all fun and games).

I’ve been enjoying reading books by Robertson Davies for my upcoming event. And I have the ambition / serious necessity to learn to properly read German. New books keep tempting me away though — The Pretty One looks interesting.

    Have a great August!

    • Thank-you Lory! And thanks for the reminder about your Robertson Davies event. I’ve added it to this post, and I’ve put What’s Bred in the Bone and The Merry Heart on request. Best of luck with your German studies – the never ending pull of those new releases is hard to resist…
