This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is a freebie. I don’t know why I picked this topic. Usually I pick one that I missed recently…but this was the topic on November 5, 2018, lol. Well, anyway. My topic is books I own but haven’t read yet. Unless a book is a new release that I’m really keen on, I find it hard to prioritize books I own. After all, they’re not going anywhere! I’m especially awful about not reading books I receive as Christmas gifts. 😅 Even though I often have the titles on my wish list, I find I’m busy finishing high priority books at the end of December and then jumping into new challenges in January… However, I’m pretty careful about the books I acquire (see this post) so I don’t actually have that many unread books. Listed below are almost all of them, in order of date acquired. (I’m only including one Tolkien title cos I acquire those far faster than I can read them…)

  1. The Bird’s Nest by Shirley Jackson (January 2015)
  2. A Gentle Madness by Nicholas Basbanes (not before July 2017)
  3. Flora of Middle-Earth by Walter S. Judd and Graham A. Judd (Christmas 2017)
  4. The Witch’s Boy by Kelly Barnhill (August 2018)
  5. Prisoner of Ice and Snow by Ruth Lauren (August 2018)
  6. Ice Ghosts by Paul Watson (August 2018)
  7. The Land of Yesterday by K.A. Reynolds (Christmas 2018)
  8. A History of Children’s Books in 100 Books by Roderick Cave and Sara Ayad (Christmas 2018)
  9. The Boy, the Bird, and the Coffin Maker by Matild Woods (Jan. 2019)
  10. Karluk by William Laird McKinlay (May 2019)

Have you read any of these? How long have you had the oldest book on your own-TBR?

  1. Ooo what a great list! I’ll admit that I haven’t read any on your list but they all look so interesting! Hopefully you get a chance to get to them soon!

  2. I read The Land of Yesterday and really liked it! The longest book on my TBR was from 10 years ago but I’ve finally read The Book Thief so I think the rest are under 5 years at the most now

    • Good to know! I should really prioritize The Land of Yesterday (I did pick it up once before but wasn’t in the right mood for it). That’s awesome that you tackled The Book Thief! I’m not sure I’ll ever read that one.
