Organized by Nadia @ Headscarves and Hardbacks. This readathon takes place from April 23 to May 23 to coincide with Ramadan 2020 (which begins after sundown today). To learn about Ramadan (especially in this year’s pandemic context) check out this article. The aim of the readathon is to celebrate and support Muslim authors by reading books they’ve written. I’m finding these kind of online bookish events especially important these days, as a way of uplifting and connecting with each other. You can find more information in Nadia’s announcement post, including prompts for a photo challenge and lots of sources for book recommendations. My goal is to read three of the following books:
- One Half from the East by Nadia Hashimi
- Amal Unbound by Aisha Saeed
- Escape from Aleppo by N.H. Senzai
- The Love and Lies of Rukhsana Ali by Sabina Khan
I will keep an eye on Libby for two more titles to be released in May. The middle grade anthology that inspired this year’s theme, Once Upon an Eid (edited by S.K Ali and Aisha Saeed), comes out 5 May. The following week, YA contemporary novel The Henna Wars (by Adiba Jaigirdar, out 12 May) comes out. It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of romance or contemporary YA, but the plot sounds so cute that I want to give it a shot…
I update my progress for this readathon in a Twitter thread. Expect to see reviews of some of these books starting late May.
Will you participating in Ramadan Readathon? Which books by Muslim authors do you recommend?
I’ll be reading Amal Unbound too, and I can’t wait for The Henna Wars!
Great picks! I hope we both enjoy those titles 🙂
Wow, such gorgeous titles here – I’m going to have to check if my library OverDrive has them. Have fun doing the readathon.
Thank-you! I hope you find a few to enjoy.
I am hoping to pick up The Henna Wars this month after it releases, I’ve heard good things! Happy reading!
Thanks! Hope we both enjoy it 🙂
