Does anyone remember this series? (If you do remember, I’ll note I did read the last book chosen, from November 2020, which was A Place at the Table by Saadia Faruqi and Laura Shoven.) I’m reviving this series for 2022!
January’s Selection
January’s theme is middle grade fantasy added to my TBR before 2021. I haven’t posted anything middle grade this month because I have been reading for the middle grade speculative fiction Cybils finalists and I have to keep mum on those titles til finalists are announced next month. Reading those books have reminded me of what I enjoy in middle grade fiction. So that’s why I chose this theme. I selected the titles by sorting my Goodreads to-read-middle-grade shelf by date, jumping back to 2020, and then picking the first four titles that caught my eye. And THEN I remembered to actually check if the books were available at my public library… that narrowed the list some but it only took a few minutes to pick four titles.
- How to Save a Queendom by Jessica Lawson (65 ratings)
- Josephine Against the Sea by Shakirah Bourne (246 ratings)
- Long Lost by Jacqueline West (728 ratings)
- Root Magic by Eden Royce (1,480 ratings)
Which book should I read in February? Vote on the poll below or by leaving a comment on this post. (I can’t tell who voted on Twitter, so if you’re really keen you can vote in the comments AND on Twitter ;P) Voting closes on 1 February.
I vote for How To Save a Queendom, simply because it has the fewest Goodreads ratings and clearly deserves more!
I’m going to vote for Long Lost by Jacqueline West, but I hope you get to read all four eventually.
Thanks Deb! That is plan – hopefully I’ll be able to pick up a copy of all of these titles sometime this year.
I love this idea! I’m voting for Root Magic, I’ve heard a lot of good things😁
This is such an innovative idea!
Thanks so much! I have found it to be a fun way to engage with my reading community.
I’ve heard so many good things about Root Magic, I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on it!
My vote is for Root Magic. I love all these covers!
I voted for Root Magic because I want to read it too (and it looks like I’m not alone). I had not heard of the others but the titles and covers are all most enticing!
Thanks Lory! Between the comments here and the votes on Twitter, Root Magic is looking like the sure winner… but yes, each of these books sounds enticing and I hope to try them all this year.
I’m probably a little late but I vote for How to Save a Queendom. The cover is gorgeous.
Just in time! Thanks for voting 🙂
