Pondathon II: The Quiet Pond’s Story-Driven Readathon. A small spade and watering can are crossed with vines wrapped around it frame the words Pondathon II. Three little forest sprites - one with a leaf on its head, another with twigs on its head like antlers, and a mushroom on the other’s head - sit on the words ‘Pondathon’.

Preamble

It’s here! Pondathon II!! I feel lucky with the timing of this event, which comes two years after the first Pondathon. If Pondathon II had happened anytime in 2021, I would have let it fall to the side. But 2022 has rejuvenated me and I’m excited to play along. This sign-up post (a template provided by CW) explains what the Pondathon is and how to participate. It also introduces my Pond character and the first books for my readathon TBR.

What is the Pondathon?

Pondathon II is a story-driven and gardening-themed readathon hosted and run by CW from The Quiet Pond. The aim of the Pondathon II readathon is to read books to earn plants and decorate your own little garden so that we can restore the forest together. More information about the readathon can be found here.

My Pond Character

My pond character is Kyrian. Kyrian was around for Pondathon I, when they were known as the quiet defender as they swam up from their reading nook at the bottom of the pond and helped protect their friends and home. Kyrian’s happy to have set down their bow in favour of their gardening tools. They’re ready to nurture the forest and bring joy back to the forest sprites of the Pond.

My Pondathon TBR

I have plenty of books that I’m eyeing for 2022! Here’s a handful of titles I’ll be picking up over the next month or two. They’re all books I currently have checked out or on hold from the library.

The Troubled Girls of Dragomir Academy by Anne Ursu – MG fantasy. A Cybils 2021 finalist and a 12 Challenge recommendation.

The Undercover Book List by Colleen Nelson – MG contemporary. January’s pick for #MGLitBC.

Ophie’s Ghosts by Justina Ireland – MG historical ghost story. A MG title I have long been anticipating (added to my TBR in Nov. 2018 :O), I’ve finally received a push to read it as it is also a Cybils 2021 finalist!

The Mirror Season by Anna-Marie McLemore – YA magical realism. McLemore is one of my favourite authors and it’s a bit of shame I haven’t picked this up yet.

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas – YA ghost story. Just checked out my hold of this today. A much recommended title.

The Bone Shard Emperor by Andrea Stewart – Adult fantasy. Sequel to The Bone Shard Daughter, which I enjoyed this past summer.

The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid – Adult fantasy. A 2021 anticipated read that I never picked up.

Have you signed up for the Pondathon? Share your link in the comments! I’d love to see your character.

  1. Cemetery Boys! I really hope you will like it. Love the name Kyrian
My sign up is coming Monday. I choose to go with the a new character since my blog has changed so much since then.

  2. Haha, yeah, I wouldn’t have been up for this in 2021 either! It’s such a lovely readathon and I’m really excited to join this year. I can’t believe the effort the host has gone to with the graphics. They make this much more fun for me than readathons where you’re unlocking something for a character that’s completely intangible.

    • Glad to hear you’re participating! Yes, it’s such a unique event, we’re luck to have CW putting it together. I am about to do some blog hopping – will keep an eye out for your sign up post 🙂
