#25’s Result – Of Salt and Shore by Annet Schaap
I finally made it through this book! I’m pretty sure I have checked it out from the library two or three times over the years. Something about the cover kept putting me off, though. Thankfully I have this feature to push me to finally read it 😛 Of Salt and Shore has a lot of elements which I thought, when taken together, would create a story right up my alley. But somehow this one didn’t quite work for me. Too many of those elements were a few notches off what I usually enjoy, and that added up to a general feeling of ambivalence towards the book. Probably my favourite aspect of the story was the relationship between Lampie and her father (and her mother, for that matter).
#26’s Selection
The theme for the next edition of “I Can’t Believe” is intriguing books that have been on my TBR for more years. To choose titles, I sorted my to-read-intriguing shelf by date added, descending, and selected the first four titles that jumped out to me (and are also available from the library).
- 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill (horror short story collection) – added 3 Oct 2013
- The Engagement by Chloe Hooper (contemporary thriller) – added 31 Dec 2013
- The Prestige by Christopher Priest (historical fantasy) – added 3 Oct 2014
- Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde (futuristic dystopia) – added 7 Nov 2014
So, which book should I read next?

I would vote for 20th Century Ghosts since I have a copy and haven’t read it either😁
Ooh good call! Thanks for your vote 🙂
Tough choice! I’ve heard good things from a coworker IRL about The Prestige, but I’m personally a fan of Fforde’s Thursday Next series and am curious about Shades of Grey… on balance, I think I’ll cast my vote for Fforde 🙂
The first vote for Fforde! I actually thought that one might get the most votes… I heard that a sequel to Shades of Grey has been published recently? So it’s been brought back onto my radar.
The cover of “The Prestige” drew me in right away. That’s my vote.
Thanks Linda! I also found the blocking on that cover eye catching.
Cool idea. I’d vote for the Prestige. Actually, I can’t believe “I” haven’t read it yet. I loved the movie.
