If you’ve seen my Family Reads feature, you’ll know I’m not the only one in my family who loves books. Here’s a recap of the bookish gifts we exchanged.
For Mom
Mom received Michelle Obama’s memoir, Becoming. This was a gift from Santa. 🎅
For Dad
My sister Ash and I created a beer-themed gift basket for my Dad. Will Travel for Beer: 101 Remarkable Journeys Every Beer Lover Should Experience by Stephen Beaumont was already on his TBR. I remember flipping through it at a bookstore in Victoria with him. My parents are going to the Netherlands and Iceland for their next big trip; both are included in this guide. Ash was on the hunt for other cool books we could gift him when she found The Comic Book Guide to Beer: The World’s Favorite Beverage from 7000 BC to Today’s Craft Brewing Revolution written by Jonathan Hennessey and Mike Smith and illustrated by Aaron McConnell, with letters by Tom Orzechowski. This is definitely a cool book. Dad was just saying a few days ago he wants read to read more graphic novels, so this tured out to be an excellent choice.
For Sister
Ash and I are visiting New York City in February. One of the bookstores she wants to visit is the Strand. So, my gift for Ash was a giftcard to the Strand. My best friend lives on Long Island and was able to pick up a physical gift card (thank-you JK!!).
For Me
I received books from both my sister and my parents. From my parents, I received the generous gift of The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull. First published in 2006, a revised edition was released in 2017.
From Ash, I received four lovely books. Two I have already read and thoroughly enjoyed – Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata and A Festival of Ghosts by William Alexander. The Land of Yesterday is middle grade speculative fiction by local author K.A. Reynolds. A History of Children’s Books in 100 Books I flipped through while browsing at Chapters last month – it’s an attractive coffee table books and also looks like a good read.
Did you give or receive any bookish gifts for Christmas this year? Tell me about them in the comments!
