Upcoming in January

After publishing’s quiet period toward the end of the year, there are plenty new releases to keep an eye out for in January! The Cybils shortlists were announced this morning. Finally, there are also a few readathons to help you kick off your 2020 reading.

  • 1 Jan. – Cybils shortlists announced. I’m on the round two panel for middle grade speculative fiction, so that’s what I”ll be reading for the next few weeks.
  • 1 Jan. – 31 Jan. – The Reader Readathon. Read book one in the trilogy, The Reader.
  • 2 Jan. – Release of The Girl Who Stole an Elephant by Nizrana Farook (middle grade adventure, Sri Lankan inspired)
  • 6 Jan. – 12 Jan. Bout of Books 27 readathon
  • 7 Jan. – Release of Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire (Wayward #5, preordered), The Deep & Dark Blue by Nikki Smith (graphic novel, middle grade fantasy, twin siblings disguise themselves as girls, one realizes she would rather stay a girl), and Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibanez (young adult fantasy, “inspiration from Bolivian politics and history”)
  • 14 Jan. – Release of Dark and Deepest Red by Anna-Marie McLemore (young adult magical realism, preordered), From the Desk of Zoe Washington by Janae Marks (middle grade contemporary, father she’s never met in prison, baking), Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse (Riordan Presents, Navajo), and Go with the Flow by Lily Williams (middle grade graphic novel, students fight for access to menstruation products at school)
  • 17 Jan. – 19 Jan.Off the Grid readathon
  • 28 Jan. – Release of Highfire by Eoin Colfer (adult contemporary, dragon hiding in Louisiana, drinks vodka while watching Netflix…sounds odd but I did enjoy Artemis Fowl so who knows.)

  1. It looks like you had a great December! Lots of good books are coming out this year, but I think I want to spend some more time going back to the classics. Anne Bronte’s birthday is in January and I want to celebrate!

    • Thank-you! December must have been my best month in 2019 for reading. I haven’t decided yet how much I want to focus on newer or older releases in 2020…I’ll have to take a look at my TBR. Hope you enjoy your time with the classics!

  2. Other Words for Home sounds very interesting plus the book is set in Cincinnati, which is where I am – so that’ll make for some interesting reading. I’m looking forward to reading Highfire and Such a Fun Age this month. We’ll see if I actually get to them. Happy New Year!

    • Other Words for Home is an excellent read – hope you enjoy it! I don’t often read books set in my hometown but it’s always neat when I do. Thanks for stopping by and happy new year 🙂
