September 2022 Month In Review

Posted 1 October 2022 in month in review /11 Comments

The big news from September is… *drum roll ๐Ÿฅ* I started a new job! It was totally unexpected. I got a call in August about a job I applied for at the end of April. I had completely written off the opportunity (for more reasons than just the fact that it had been three months, lol). But now I am nearly a month into it. I am back in libraryland and children’s services. I don’t like to talk too much about work here, so that’s all I say about that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cybils judges were also announced in September. This year, for the first time since 2016 (my first year of Cybils participation!), I will be a round one judge. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ So I shall busy myself in the remaining months of 2022 reading all the middle grade speculative fiction from the past year that I have been sleeping on.

ALSO I have been watching The Rings of Power. Mostly I reply to other people’s theories and opinions on Twitter. But I am happy to discuss it further in the comments ๐Ÿ˜„

Books Finished

  • Let the Monster Out by Chad Lucas
  • Ghostlight by Kenneth Oppel
  • Wildseed Witch by Marti Dumas
  • The City (Scary Stories for Young Foxes #2) by Christian McKay Heidicker

  1. Congratulations on your new job and your Cybils judgeship. No doubt you will excel at both. How did you enjoy Wildseed Witch? I added it to my TBR after seeing it on your blog. The cover is just so stunning. I hope you have a good October!

    • Thank you very much ๐Ÿ˜Š Overall I enjoyed Wildseed Witch! I found some of the premise and pacing a little odd and uneven. But I especially enjoyed the YouTube subplot, which turned out to be more prominent than I anticipated. Hope your October is also off to a good start ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Yay! Congratulations on the new job! I do find some places move rather slowly, though. No, I’m not still interested a year later? I have moved on! I just got a random email from some place I applied to three or four years ago, asking if I’m still interested.

Also, that red armchair is AMAZING!

    • Thanks very much!! This was the third interview I did for this place (I declined the position they offered me earlier this year). The turn around this time was faster than any other library job Iโ€™ve interviewed for. I know a lot of places are desperate for staff right now, so thatโ€™s wild someone reached out years later!

The red chair I have been dreaming of getting for five or six years. I am very happy to finally have space for it ๐Ÿ˜„
