October 2024 Month In Review

Posted 3 November 2024 in month in review /3 Comments

Where did October go? It feels like just last weekend I came home from Minneapolis. My weekends in October filled up with special activities – such as a friend in town from overseas, a birthday party, martial arts tournament, Thanksgiving, mountain biking trips while the weather is still warm enough… I think yesterday (Nov 2) marks the last trail ride of the season. Time to start cocooning into November!

Books Finished

  • A Haunting on the Hill by Elizabeth Hand
  • Crushing It by Erin Becker
  • The Otherwoods by Justine Pucella Winans
  • Indians on Vacation by Thomas King
  • Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison
  • Asking for a Friend by Ronnie Riley
  • Alice Atherton’s Grand Tour by Lesley M.M. Blume
  • Bloom by Delilah S. Dawson

Posts Written

  • Finally posted “I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Read That” #27, where I shared thoughts on Christopher Priest’s The Prestige
  • Reviewed Erin Becker’s Crushing It, a friends-enemies-crushes sapphic middle grade novel
  • My sister Ash and I discussed Leigh Bardugo’s latest, the adult historical fantasy novel The Familiar

Challenges Check In

  • 18/30 middle grade fiction novels (excluding rereads)
    • There is a wee chance I may yet hit 30 middle grade before the end of the year :O At this point, I will only guarantee 25.
  • 7/9 Family Reads
    • Big shout out to my three family members who are the reason why I have kept this goal on track all year!
  • 3/6 “I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Read that Yet”
    • Progress after stagnating for 5 months!
  • 59/84 books read
    • With two months to go, I’m not sure I’ll be able to pull ahead and read an extra 11 books to get back on track ad meet my goal… but I’m feeling confident I won’t fall further behind.
  • Reviewed 30.5% (18/59) of what I read (goal = 40%)
  • Reread The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings
    • okay I’m ready to throw in the towel on this one lol there’s no way I read both the Silm and LotR in the next two months…
  • 4/8 posts in October
  • 3,303/2,200 views in October
    • My highest viewed month of all time! Hmmm…

  • 28 Oct to 30 Nov – NonFiction November (five weeks of prompts to reflect on your year of nonfiction reading. I am not on the ball enough to participate this year but I enjoy checking out posts and growing my TBR!)
  • 1 to 30 Nov – Scifi Month (scifi is not my genre but I want to shout out this long standing event, hosted by several of the folks behind Wyrd & Wonder)

How was your October? What new books, or bookish events, are you looking forward to this month?
