November 2024 Month In Review

Posted 1 December 2024 in month in review /16 Comments

Where did November go? It was another one of those months that flew by. Mostly I have been absorbed by work uncertainty. My contract went until Nov 29. On Nov 7, news came down and it suddenly seemed unlikely that my contract would be renewed. On Nov 21, the contract got extended two weeks to Dec 13… now I continue to wait and see what’s next. Maybe I’ll have end up with extra times for blogging in December lol. [Dec 3 update: My contract has not been extended 😑] In happier news, I am currently (Nov 30 to Dec 4) on a little vacation in Vancouver! My mom and I are out there mostly so I can take my teenage cousin to see Billie Eilish. But we will keep busy visiting all my old favourite haunts around town.

Books Finished

  • The City in Glass by Nghi Vo
  • The Color of Revenge (Inkworld #4) by Cornelia Funke
  • Adrift in Currents Clean and Clear (Wayward Children #10) by Seanan McGuire
  • Misadventures in Ghosthunting by Melissa Yue
  • Midnight in Everwood by M.A. Kuzniar
  • I wish I could say I finished The West Passage by Jared Pechaček but I’ve hit a wall on that one about 200 pages in…

On My Radar in December

Nothing in particular! I signed up for the Broke and the Bookish’s Secret Santa and Christmas card exchange. While I have had fun getting everything together for that, I’ve been unable to mail anything as Canada Post has been on strike for a couple weeks now. It’s not looking like that will end any time soon. 🥲

How was your November? What new books, or bookish events, are you looking forward to this month?

  1. I hope things with your job turn out OK. That must be very stressful😬 I’m hoping December is more of a relaxing reading month for me, although there’s the stress of the holidays to account for too. Have a good month!

    • Thanks Tammy! I’m out of work now 🙃 I ended up only working two days in December lol (I had a lot of vacation time to use up) so now I am also working on making this month a relaxing reading month. Happy holidays!

  2. Being on a contract sounds very stressful! Sending good thoughts your way!

Also…I didn’t know the post could go on strike? I’m not an expert, but I think federal workers in the U.S. generally aren’t allowed to strike, so now I’m off to read some news articles about the Canada Post.

Canada Post workers aren’t federal workers – it’s a crown corporation.

Also, as we are a different country, we have different laws about our government and federal workers can strike here.

    • Thanks Krysta! I’m out of work now but still a wee bit optimistic that I’ll return by end of January (absolutely no guarantee on that yet, though.). I’ll try to enjoy lots of reading this month and then maybe start fretting in the new year, haha.

Laina is correct on both points below. I’m not sure the best way to explain what a crown corporation is haha. I suppose simply put it’s like a business owned by the government, but it’s not actually the government… unfortunately the strike is still ongoing! I’m glad I wasn’t too committed to the idea of mailing out Christmas cards to my friends and family this year 😛

I’m also in Canada, so I feel you there. You’re doing great on your challenges! You’re almost there on a lot of them.

  4. Welcome back! I hope you get some news on the jobfront soon so there’s not too much more uncertainty. And I feel you on the strike, at least I have an excuse for not getting my gifts together on time

  5. Hope you’re taking some time for yourself this month 💜. I neeeed to get to the new Inkheart book because the Inkworld series is one of my favourite book series so I’ll reread and get to the new one next year!
