Today’s Top Ten Tuesday theme is Books I Hope Santa Brings/Bookish Wishes. I’m adapting that to 2023 Releases Still on My TBR. I have not read many 2023 releases! That being said, I would like to note I have achieved the minor sucess of having read six of the ten titles I highlighted back in my January post “Most Anticipated Books Releasing Jan – Jun 2023“. But there remain so many 2023 releases on my TBR that I’ve decided to publish two separate posts today. This one includes all ages and genres, while the other post focuses on middle grade.

  1. Nestlings by Nat Cassidy (vampiric horror, parenthood)
  2. A Haunting on the Hill by Elizabeth Hand (return to The Haunting of Hill House)
  3. Extremely Online: The Rise of Influencers and the Creation of a New American Dream by Taylor Lorenz
  4. What Kind of Mother by Clay McLeod Chapman (body/weird horror, small town Gothic)
  5. Bride of the Tornado by James Kennedy (not really sure what is going on here but plague of sentient tornadoes once a generation?)
  6. Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward (psychological horror, Maine writer)
  7. Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo (magical ralism, familiy saga)
  8. The Centre by Ayesha Manazir Siddiqi (thriller, translation, dark comedy)
  9. Ascension by Nicholas Binge (scifi thriller that brings to my mind the Southern Reach trilogy)
  10. The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty (pirate fantasy)

What 2023 titles are you still anticipating reading?
Which of these should I prioritize in 2024?

  1. Ooh I should make a list like this. There are a few on here I’d love to read too, like The Adventures of Amina and A Haunting on the Hill. I’ve read a few as well. Good luck reading these last few days of the year!

  2. There are some gorgeous covers there… I’m especially interested in The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, though! I’ve seen that around a couple of times, and I’m getting curious.

Hope you enjoy these when you get round to them!

  3. I haven’t read A Haunting on the Hill, but I adore Elizabeth Hand’s writing. Wylding Hall by her is one I scream into the void about how good it is. Hopefully you can get to these soon!

  4. I’m afraid I have not read any of these and I tend to be behind on new releases by at least a year or two! I’d be curious about A Haunting on the Hill but a bit wary of anyone trying to follow up on Shirley Jackson’s unique genius. I definitely want to read Elizabeth Acevedo at some point!

    • Completely agree with you re following up Jackson’s genius! I’m keeping my fingers crossed it will be a decent, if not as excellent, read 🤞🏻 I have only read one of Acevedo’s YA books previously but quite enjoyed it, so I’m interested to see how she tackles adult.
