Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2024. I highlight a mix of debut authors and simply new-to-me authors below. I feel a little bad that I haven’t reviewed several of these titles, which were favourite reads of 2024. I’m still hoping to knock out a West Passage review, because I think that book especially deserves more attention. But that’s how I feel about most of the books on this list – hence why I decided to participate in this week’s topic 😁
- Simon Jimenez (The Spear Cuts Through Water)
- Adult speculative author
- This one was so good that I almost want to pick up his scifi book The Vanished Birds… but I think I’ll just wait and see what he comes up with next lol.
- Jared Pechaček (The West Passage)
- Adult fantasy debut author
- This funky little (not little at all actually) book! Definitely a fantasy author to watch.
- Delilah Dawson (Bloom)
- Adult speculative author
- This novella was a fun fall read. Please leave me recs for other Dawson books!
- Vincent Tirado (We Came to Welcome You)
- Adult horror debut author
- This one was a little tricky to get into but I ended up loving the atmosphere. Will keep an eye out for any adult novel they might write next.
- Rachel Harrison (Black Sheep)
- Another fun fall read. I will consider this author in the future when I’m looking for something light (ie fun) and dark (ie horror/thriller).
- Rose Sutherland (A Sweet Sting of Salt)
- Adult historical fantasy debut author
- Absolutely adored this one. I hope we see more historical fantasy from Sutherland! But I’ll pick up whatever she tries next.
- Alechia Dow (Just a Pinch of Magic, The Cookie Crumbles)
- Young adult and middle grade author
- Dow has been a name in YA/MG lit for some time now. I finally enjoyed some of her middle grade writing.
- Elly Swartz (Hidden Truths)
- Middle grade contemporary debut author
- These last three authors published middle grade debuts in 2024. Each is an author to watch!
- Erin Becker (Crushing It)
- Middle grade contemporary debut author
- Mo Netz (The Lumbering Giants of Windy Pines)
- Middle grade speculative debut author
Have you read any of these authors? Which book introduced you to a new favourite author last year?

I also loved A Sweet Sting of Salt!
I wanted to read We Come to Welcome You but just didn’t have time. I would recommend The Violence by Deliliah Dawson, I loved it!
Can confirm that The Vanished Birds is MOST EXCELLENT, if you decide you want to give it a go! It had me SOBBING at one point.
The Spear Cuts Through Water looks so good! I might have to pick that one up soon.
